Getting veterinarians to get involved and take an interest in open standards for information communication in the vet practice

Answer 1: OMG - I cannot believe you are wasting my time with this nonsense. You are an idiot. Do you ever stop with this open standards junk - DR. DICOM???

Answer 2: These are all impossibly difficult issues to fix but we need keep trying even though it feels like we are beating our heads against the wall.

Hopefully, you picked answer #2. If you picked answer #1, you are in good company. But good company is not what we need right now. What we need are veterinarians openly asking their digital radiography and practice management vendors to suport open standards. If they hear it from you they will respond. If this is all foreign to you, here is a link and here is another link to discussions about open standards and why they are important. Since I know that listing facts and making logical arguments is still not enough to get your attention, how about a reality TV commercial approach. Here goes...

You are invited to watch the discussion unfold by clicking this link: To get you up to speed on what has already transpired:

  • One company proposed their standard. Many industry folks questioned their intentions
  • AAHA drew a line in the sand and said "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!!'
  • Dudes from the human side are poking around saying "You silly veterinary knuckleheads. Why are you reinventing the wheel?"
  • Nobody has yet discussed what is best for the veterinarians which is interesting.
  • There are back room emails and phone conversations aplenty.

Tune in now. It is veterinary medicines greatest reality show and this reality show will affect every one of you and may determine who controls your practice, your hospital information, and your future. Get involved.

Roll exit music...3...2...1.
